Valve today released its first-ever application on one of Meta’s VR platforms. Steam Link allows users to quickly and easily connect their Quest headset wirelessly to SteamVR to play PC VR or flatscreen PC content. Oculus Link / Air Link has for years allowed any Quest headset to connect to a PC to play PC VR content, but it requires users to install and use the long-outdated Oculus PC software.

Beloved UK comedy show Taskmaster is getting its own VR game soon featuring the Taskmaster tyrant himself, Greg Davies (and of course Little Alex Horne). Targeting a 2024 launch on Quest 2/3/Pro and SteamVR headsets, the single-player game puts you in the hotseat of your very own series of Taskmaster. And as you’d expect, Taskmaster VR takes you to the titular Taskmaster House, the show’s humble abode that regularly plays host to the game’s plethora of madcap missions.

Valve just launched a free official Steam Link app on Meta Quest. The app, which is on the official Quest Store and approved by Meta, lets you wirelessly play SteamVR games like Half-Life: Alyx on your Quest 2, Quest Pro, or Quest 3 by streaming from your gaming PC over your home Wi-Fi network. You can also play your traditional non-VR Steam games on a giant virtual screen. 0:00 / 0:26 1× Of course, Quest headsets can already do this.

Resident Evil 4 Remake's VR Mode arrives next week alongside a PSVR 2 gameplay demo. Following on from Resident Evil Village reaching PSVR 2 in February, Capcom's PlayStation Blog announcement confirms Resident Evil 4 is next on December 8. Featuring 3D audio, haptic feedback through the Sense Controllers and a new first-person perspective, VR Mode covers Resident Evil 4's entire campaign.

Virtual Desktop developer Guy Godin is now being squeezed on both sides by free competitors with platform-level hardware access to deliver their version of a feature he helped pioneer for hundreds of thousands of PC VR gamers. Virtual Desktop has been one of VR's go-to utilities for many years. It was developed principally by a single developer, Guy Godin, who programmed the app in native code instead of using high-level engines like Unity and Unreal that most developers turn to.

Legislators in the European Parliament have called on the region to step up its efforts to build the Metaverse, reducing its dependence on technologies from countries outside of the 27-member bloc. The initiative will also back businesses in the European Union (EU) by connecting and promoting them on the future spatial communications platform. The news follows the release of a report from the European Parliament Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection.

Unity is considering allowing Quest passthrough in the splash screen instead of a black void. Currently when you launch a Unity mixed reality app on Quest you'll see two sequential black void loading screens, effectively temporarily blindfolding you, even if you were in passthrough in the home environment. It's an issue we pointed out in our Quest 3 review as a rough edge of its mixed reality functionality.
