Meta has not seen the results it has hoped for with its investments in the VR space, with an operating loss of $31 billion. However, the recent announcement of Apple’s Vision Pro last June is set to reinvigorate the marketplace. Rolf Illenberger “I and the entire industry was waiting for Apple for a decade,” said Rolf Illenberger, CEO of VRDirect, which provides company software solutions to build their own VR projects.

Quest 3 would be lighter if the battery was external, but as much as you might guess. Earlier this week we highlighted the fact that iFixit's Quest 3 teardown revealed that the battery takes up almost all the internal component space when the front plate is removed. Some other headsets like Pico 4 and Quest Pro house the battery in the rear padding instead of in the visor, while Apple Vision Pro has a tethered external battery pack to remove it from your head entirely.

The Pico OS 5.8 update brings a range of improvements to ByteDance's Quest competitor. Update 5.7, released in August , reduced the jitter of hand tracking and increased its accuracy and stability. Pico says 5.8 upgrades hand tracking even further by fixing an issue causing higher latency and improving tracking when hands are overlapping as well as enhancing reliability for darker skin tones.

Not to be outdone in the generative artificial intelligence (AI) race, China-based tech giant Alibaba has recently unveiled a number of its own tools and models. Its flagship is its ChatGPT challenging large language model (LLM) called Tongyi Qianwen - cited as one of the largest and most powerful generative chatbots produced so far. Alibaba is best known in the West as an e-commerce titan, in many ways analogous to Amazon.
