All eyes are now on the holiday season to see if Meta’s new hardware will move the needle. Meta announced the latest Reality Labs revenue figures today during its Q3 earnings call.

Apple's release of Arm-based system-on-chips for its desktops and laptops three years ago demonstrated that such processors could offer competitive performance and power consumption. On the Windows-based PC front, only Qualcomm has offered Arm-based SoCs for notebooks in recent years, but it looks like it will soon be joined by AMD and NVIDIA, two notable players in the PC space, according to a Reuters report.

Meta expects its ongoing "losses" in its Reality Labs division to increase in 2024. Reality Labs is the division of Meta behind Quest headsets, the smart glasses , Meta Avatars, Horizon, and research & development toward AR glasses and their neural wristband input device. In the Q3 earnings call today Meta reported $210 million Reality Labs revenue this quarter against $3.95 billion costs, resulting in a $3.7 billion "loss".

We're here in sunny Hawaii for day two of Qualcomm's annual Snapdragon Summit. Yesterday, of course, was the company's prime keynote, where they announced their forthcoming Snapdragon X Elite SoC for laptops, as well as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for smartphones. As well, the company gave us our first look at their Oryon CPU architecture, which will be driving the X Elite, and eventually Qualcomm's smartphones, automotive chips, and more.

The solid state storage industry has been in a well-documented slide for the better part of the last year now. XREAL, formerly Nreal, is a China-based startup that launched the first consumer AR glasses in the US, Nreal Light , in late 2021.
