After being out of stock for months, HTC quietly removed the US-facing product page for Vive Cosmos, its modular PC VR headset released in 2019. The discrepancy was first discovered by Reddit user ‘Kody1996’, who wondered why the Vive Cosmos product page was missing. “I am afraid the VIVE Cosmos headset has been discontinued in the US.

Samsung’s upcoming XR headset, which is meant to compete with Apple Vision Pro, has been delayed by “one to two quarters” from its reported early 2024 release target, according to an SBS Biz (Korean) report. Samsung announced in February it was developing an XR headset in partnership with Qualcomm and Google , the former supplying the device’s chipset and the latter the headset’s operating system.

SteamVR 1.26 adds Automatic Controller Rebinding. Unlike on standalone headsets or PlayStation VR2 where all users have a known controller, the PC-based SteamVR platform supports a wide variety of controllers with different input layouts. Most VR developers obviously can't actively support every possible controller though, so SteamVR has a robust controller input binding system to allow users to create bindings for different games and share them on Steam Workshop.

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory had received the first components of its upcoming El Capitan supercomputer and begun to install them, the laboratory announced on Wednesday. The system is set to come online in mid-2024 and is expected to deliver performance of over 2 ExaFLOPS. LLML's El Capitan is based on Cray's Shasta supercomputer architecture and will be built by HPE, just like two other exascale systems in the U.S., Frontier and Aurora.

Alongside the image, Andrew Bosworth wrote : Threads is Meta's Twitter competitor, which launched today for iPhone and Android after days of official teasing and weeks of speculation about its codename "Project 92". It's based on Instagram, so uses your existing Instagram account name and you can import your followers.

Today, Chinese AR smart glasses manufacturer Xreal debuted Apple Macbook integration for its Nebula operating system (OS), significantly improving productivity opportunities for the firm’s Air and Light product lineup. The firm first introduced the Macbook service as a Beta in November 2022. Nebula for Mac allows users to connect an Xreal product to a Macbook computer to stream immersive content up to 102 inches in size on immersive screens.

Meta's budding partnership with Chinese tech giant Tencent was first reported by Chinese news outlets back in February following Tencent reportedly scrapping its own in-development VR headset due to the high cost of the project.
