Microsoft Releases Initial Azure Cloud Rendering Support for Quest 2 & Quest Pro

Microsoft announced it’s released a public preview of Azure Remote Rendering support for Meta Quest 2 and Quest Pro, something that promises to allow devs to render complex 3D content in the cloud and stream it to those VR headsets in real-time. Azure Remote Rendering, which already supports desktop and the company’s AR headset HoloLens 2, notably uses a hybrid rendering approach to combine remotely rendered content with locally rendered content.

Vision Pro Dev Kit Applications Will Open in July

Apple says it will give developers the opportunity to apply for Vision Pro dev kits starting sometime in July. In addition to releasing a first round of developer tools last week , including a software ‘Simulator’ of Vision Pro, Apple also wants to give developers a chance to get their hands on the headset itself. The company indicates that applications for a Vision Pro development kit will open starting in July, and developers will be able to find details here when the time comes.

Meta launches new VR subscription ‘Meta Quest+’ for $7.99

Meta Quest users can subscribe to a new service that gives them access to the top two titles every month. Dubbed Meta Quest+ , the virtual reality subscription costs $7.99 per month or $59.99 annually. The first hint of the subscription service came in March when a Twitter user discovered a description of a game pass feature in the Meta Quest app. Earlier this month, another Twitter user spotted the title and price of Meta Quest+ in the app selection of the Meta Quest app.

SK Hynix Launches Beetle X31 Portable SSD

SK Hynix has introduced the Beetle X31, its first portable SSD. The drive promises to hit sequential transfer rates of up to 1,050 MB/sec when working with appropriate hosts. The drive is ultra compact and can store up to 1 TB of data, which is quite a bit higher than typical USB flash drives. The SK Hynix Beetle X31 uses the company's 128-layer 3D NAND memory and boasts sequential read and write speeds of up to 1,050 MB/sec and 1,000 MB/sec, respectively.
