Following Quest 2 almost three years to the day, Quest 3 is finally here. Meta continues its trend of building some of the best VR hardware out there, but it will be some time yet before the headset’s potential is fully revealed. Read on for our full Quest 3 review. I wanted to start this review saying that Quest 3 feels like a real next-gen headset.

If you’ve been waiting to hear about a release date for the long-promised Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on Quest, you’ll just have to sit tight a little longer. Meta announced at Connect 2021 that it was working with Rockstar Games to bring GTA: San Andreas to Quest 2 , giving players a new perspective on the nearly 20 year-old game. I've been using Quest 3 at home since last week - here's what I think of it in real world use. Quest 3 is a significant improvement over its predecessor on paper, with a 40% slimmer visor, pancake lenses, next-generation chipset, color cameras, depth sensor, and more. With its mixed reality capability, it even promises to deliver entirely new kinds of experiences not possible on Quest 2.

Some enhanced versions of games already shipped as part of our Best on Quest 3 program, taking full advantage of all that the new tech stack has to offer (we’re looking at you, Red Matter 2, Pistol Whip, and Guardians Frontline). Two years after the initial announcement, Meta still won't confirm what's happening with Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on Quest. Originally announced at 2021's Connect conference, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed Rockstar Games’ popular PS2-era hit would reach Quest 2 but little else was shared about GTA: San Andreas. Since then, Meta's not said a word about the the upcoming VR port, though we know LA Noire: The VR Case Files studio Video Games Deluxe was at least partially developing it.

Quest 2 file sizes are increasing because of newly upgraded Quest 3 versions as developers tell UploadVR there's currently no "convenient" method to offer separate builds. Last month at Connect 2023 , Meta confirmed over 50 Quest 2 titles are getting Quest 3 upgrades , which includes Red Matter 2 and Guardians Frontline. With upgrades like 4K textures and increased detail, enhanced Quest 3 games are seeing increased file sizes.
