They are going to be hit very hard by this new pricing model It’s a model that “punishes” games for their success : the more a game is successful, the more the creator has to pay.

With a long post on Magic Leap’s blog, in the end Rony Abovitz has admitted that the company is not going that well, and has announced a new course, that should eventually lead to Magic Leap 2. There is a lot to say about this, and in fact, plenty of editorials have been written online. Let me briefly tell you my thoughts.

It targets the category of people for which VR is already more appealing… with a game of the franchise they love. Half-Life is a game that targets a very specific category of people, and it is only one (even if very important) piece of content. I think that we’ll see many more headsets sold.

Regarding the last topic, I have written an editorial on how the Quest could disrupt the PC VR market, and it has been good that it has created a healthy debate inside the VR communities. Of course, some additional safety measures are in place for this category of users, to try to guarantee their privacy and safety. Now people from 13 to 18 years will be able to join the platform. This decision has been taken with the intent of boosting the user numbers of Horizon Worlds, which have been pretty disappointing until now.

I have been waiting a while to write this editorial, but I think the right time has come. While examples of the second category are few in number, there has been an explosion of projects announced in the first category over the past couple of years. Somebody posted this to Reddit).
