Qualcomm releases XR2 5G reference design. Qualcomm has finally released the reference design for AR/VR headsets based on the XR2 chipset (a special version of the Snapdragon 865 for XR headsets), and it will pave the way for the standalone headsets of the future. 1” is not the new name of a son of Elon Musk, but it is the (questionable) name of a new opensource AR headset by Combine Reality, based on Leap Motion’s North Star reference design. Mova will be a 6DOF headset with 2 tracking cameras, working natively only with hands tracking (there is a controller for fallback, though).

So at least the collaboration with Valve is true, but notice that it has not been on the headset, so they got no reference design from Valve, it has just been on the software integration. For reference, human vision (retinal resolution) is 60 PPD, which can also be expressed as “one arc-minute per pixel” (arc minute). The hardware for hand tracking is already incorporated, though wasn’t activated at the time I started testing the system, coming soon as part of ongoing software updates.
