As a long-time AR enthusiast, and one of the first to have tried Google Glass in Italy, I have to admit that I will consider AR mainstream only when it will be on glasses that we will wear all day , when we’ll live in a completely shared mixed reality world (the AR Cloud). Facebook and Apple will jumpstart the smartglasses ecosystem.

Devices such as the Magic Leap and the Hololens rely on Waveguide optics. We’re looking at you, Google Glass. Besides Google Glass, there have been plenty of venture backed companies promising to make consumer grade Augmented Reality come to life, only to realize the scale of the problem is larger than originally anticipated.

I know one thing that I saw was Magic Leap partnered with H&M and… Moshino ? And one of the experiences, one that you mentioned, I recently saw at Collision Conference in Toronto and H&M had partnered with the Magic Leap to allow attendees to design their T-shirt in mixed reality using the Magic Leap.

For sure the announcement at FC and the release date in 2021 have been studied to put some pressure on Apple , which seems to be the only rival to Facebook for what concerns the AR future. Imagine the people wearing Aria like the guys wearing Google Maps backpacks inside museums of campuses: they go around and collect data to build some maps.
