Leap Motion. You may ask why I’m adding Leap Motion here. Well, during 2018, Leap Motion has announced the North Star reference design : a cheap augmented reality connected to PC, that is able to detect your hands very well thanks to Leap Motion’s sensor. Apple glasses.

Today it’s a great day for virtual reality: at WCVRI conference, HTC has just announced a kit to provide 6 DOF controllers for Vive Focus and has showcased a hands-tracking technology for the Vive Pro ! It seems cool, but I would like to try it to believe in it: all the times that someone promised me some kind of sensory magic, it never turned out so good as they told me (like with the phantom touch sensation that Leap Motion told me about ). Vive Facial Tracker works also with non-HTC headsets. As long as it works….

Motion tracking is either done by the smartphone’s sensors or built-in headset sensors; thus, there are no cables hindering free movement. The great thing is, one can start for as cheap as fifteen bucks with the simplest headset from Google (Cardboard). Google Daydream View. Google Cardboard. Motion Controller.

We may know the field of view of Apple AR headset. Of course, since he has not an Apple HMD, the only thing he could obtain was the screen splitting in two on his phone, showing that view that we XR developers know very well.
