That allows devices which don’t have the compute capabilities today — lightweight AR headset devices — to have the kind of capability that a higher-end device like a Hololens 2 or Magic Leap might have, or even better in some cases. We’ve got the Hololens silo, we’ve got the Magic Leap silo.

The North-America-only limitation is quite a bummer for us Europeans, but honestly, as a developer, I understand the will of making an incremental deployment to be sure that everything works before expanding the product to many countries. Microsoft and Samsung may be partnering for an AR device. Apple headset may be very lightweight.

For sure the announcement at FC and the release date in 2021 have been studied to put some pressure on Apple , which seems to be the only rival to Facebook for what concerns the AR future.
