As I said a few months ago , we are in the middle of a paradigm change: the cycle that started with the Quest is arriving at an end, and a new cycle driven by new technologies (mixed reality headsets) and new players (Apple, Google) is starting. As I’m thinking back to it now, this was actually on HTC VIVE — first gen, which was only maybe 3, 4 years ago now — and I was so impressed with the first generation of hardware that I was like, “well, this is ready for prime time.” Alan: Absolutely. It’s an interesting first gen product. Alan: Yeah.

Personally, I have some concerns about the cost of the Hololens and the Magic Leap devices at this time.

Waiting until now would mean that next VR game by Valve would come out in 2024–2025… do you really think they don’t want to make the ecosystem to grow now? Valve says that it was waiting to see the reception of Alyx before developing other games. I don’t believe them at all : Alyx required 4 years of development.

HTC did something with Batman; that Game of Thrones thing; some of the demos that Magic Leap had really. A big company like Apple, Google, really pushing the thing out and saying, “this is what it’s going to be,” and then making it part of everyday life. I was, this weekend, at Shape from AT&T.
