In its latest post, he stated that Meta plans to make the Quest 3 live as a medium-tier headset while releasing a new cheaper version of it in 2024 as the affordable option for the mass market. This would mean that Apple’s XR offering should rely for 3 years on a very expensive headset with very low sales.

But things on the consumers’ side may not be going as well: according to some data scrapped from Amazon, the Quest 2 outsold the Quest 3 by a factor of 3:1 in the last 30 days. This would show the level of polish of the upcoming Apple headset. If all the existing flatscreen Unity games could become VR-compatible, that would be huge.

These are the improvements it applied: Changes in prices will start with the next Unity 2023 LTS, so existing applications will not be affected, at least while the use previous Unity versions Unity Personal will still be free (now up to 200K of revenues) and applications made with it will be subject to no fee at all.

The Wall Street Journal cites "people familiar with their thinking" as saying that Meta executives believe Apple's entry into the market will "validate Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg’s gamble and draw more consumers".
