MWC 2024 wrapped up for another year. The event always wows spectators with a rich lineup of technology vendors and innovations; however, in 2024, XR took centre stage with many firms highlighting major products, addressing device debuts, and entering the market. MWC 2024 was a valuable insight into the mainstream XR market.

Google reportedly asked Meta to partner and "contribute to" its upcoming XR platform, but Meta said no. The Meta Quest operating system is a fork of the open-source core of Android (known as AOSP), a similar strategy to Amazon's Fire OS for its Fire tablets. We would love to partner with them.

Another leak regarded the release date: an Amazon listing put the availability date of the Quest 3 starting from October, 10th. First of all, Google has to keep the work on the headset very secret also internally , because Samsung is afraid that Google will steal its expertise to build a competing product.

Meta is reportedly optimistic about the release of Apple Vision Pro, seeing itself as the future Android of the market. The Wall Street Journal cites "people familiar with their thinking" as saying that Meta executives believe Apple's entry into the market will "validate Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg’s gamble and draw more consumers".

And Quest 2 is much cheaper (especially now that has been put at $199): during the last holidays, it outperformed the Quest 3 by a factor 3:1 on Amazon US. As for the sales, Meta is used to launch headsets at Meta Connect, so probably preorders can start in Autumn 2024 at Meta Connect.

New leaks on Amazon and MediaMarkt have revealed that probably the headset will be available starting from October, 10th, 2023. I hope to be wrong, of course: maybe Valve has just accelerated to launch its device before Apple may finally release its one. Preorders are expected to start on the day of the Connect, so on September, 27th.
