VR in 2022-2023 will definitely enter the mainstream market , and I wonder if it will just be because of Quest or there will be some other devices. I don’t think we’ll see the launch of a Quest 3 this year (it would compete directly with Cambria), but I think we’ll see some revelations about it, and a 2023 release.

In the end, I still believe in the old predictions of Unity CEO John Riccitiello: Look at this graph shown by Mr. Riccitiello in 2017: the purple line is the one of the analysts, while the white one is the one forecasted by him. We won’t see a true disruptive headset probably until 2022-2023.

HTC has actually released that for the Vive Focus Plus … Well, according to the god John Carmack , it is something about which the company has discussed a lot and has also experimented a lot. Later this year, we’ll expand our Vulkan support on Quest to include Unity and Vulkan validation layers for easier debugging.

Hands-On: Meta’s Reprojection-Free Passthrough Prototype At SIGGRAPH 2023 we tried Flamera, Meta’s research prototype of reprojection-free passthrough AR. The Unity renderer implementation of foveated rendering, on the other hand is much rougher, and in multiple Unity apps I saw very obvious and harsh artifacts, particularly on text.
