As pointed out in one of the Unity Developers’ blog posts , aside from the exponential rise of development businesses, we’re also seeing more developer tools, such as the Unity and Unreal engines, becoming more accessible. Once the base becomes big enough, the platform becomes extremely interesting for marketers and advertisers.

PlayStation VR has been the most successful headset until now (if we exclude the crappy mobile viewers), but now it is pretty dated and people were wondering what Sony was going to do. Some people started to think that Sony could have abandoned VR.

Epic Games, the creators of Unreal Engine, said it would consider building a launch title for Sony’s “next VR platform” during negotiations about Fortnite cross-play on PlayStation in 2018. And though Epic hasn’t made any VR games since then, it seems that in 2018 it was still ready and willing.

Unreal Engine 5 gets released in Early Access. After a lot of teasing of its upcoming fantastic features, Unreal Engine 5 is finally available for download. There is also a companion app (another thing copied from Oculus), through which you can buy the games (of course connected with Alipay and WeChat pay). Top news of the week.

The plan for the end of 2022 is to integrate everything in an even smaller form factor so that the lightfield can fit inside standard frames. The expected sales of these devices are around 3M units in 2023 for the first generation (to be launched at the end of 2022) and around 10M in 2024 for the second generation.
