Poly Is Google’s Foundation For Building Virtual Worlds

Google is launching Poly, a service with a growing library of free objects for creators to incorporate into their virtual worlds. Poly further positions Google to deliver foundational software and services that could one day open up 3D modeling and virtual world creation to millions of people through VR and AR. Earlier this year, the company added Blocks to its creative suite of immersive computing apps — enabling the creation of simple 3D virtual objects.

How Sound Design Can Add Texture To A Virtual World

In this Exploration, we’ll explore the fundamentals of VR sound design, plus take a deep dive into the auditory world of Blocks. Engines like Unity and Unreal are constantly getting better at representing sound effects in 3D space – with binaural audio , better reverb modeling, better occlusion and obstruction modeling, and more. Virtual reality is an exciting medium, but for first time users it can take a few minutes to master its limitations.
