Auckland-based virtual reality (VR) Metaverse platform Many Worlds launched its bespoke immersive content creation tools on Friday last week, which provides a digital space to create custom avatars, virtual spaces, and interactive content.

The company provides an immersive environment for users to play mini-games, join events, and socialise. Users can also hop between tailor-made digital worlds via portals that seamlessly transport a user to a new digital space.

In a statement, Yan Fu, the Co-Founder of Many World VR, added,

“With Many Worlds VR, I wanted to create a magical alternate life you can escape to, relax, have fun, and meet new people easily. I want the experience to have a strong, positive impact on people that stays with them when they leave”

Additionally, the service will soon debut as a professional edition. Many Worlds Pro will enable businesses to harness the new Metaverse platform to host business meetings and collaborate. The platform also has new mini-games and immersive experiences in the pipeline for future builds.

The firm built its Metaverse platform for PC-VR headsets, and the service is also available as a desktop application with mouse and keyboard support.

Emerging NZ Immersive Tech

In April this year, augmented reality (AR) giants and creators of the popular Pokemon Go application, Niantic Labs, acquired New Zealand-based immersive experience developers NZXR.

The purchase enables Niantic to harness NZXR’s robust cross-platform AR content distribution platform for upcoming multiplayer Metaverse services.

NZXR has a storied track record, working with major XR companies and service providers like Epic Games and Qualcomm to produce immersive experiences with integrated technology like geotagging, multiplayer, and high-quality real-time 3D (RT3D) graphics.

The New Zealand-based firm created the AR content creation platform StoryXR through Qualcomm’s SpaceDragon Spaces platform. The SnapDragon service utilises machine learning, hand-tracking, and cloud technology to facilitate immersive content creation for various devices.

Additionally, NZXR created Skatrix, a mobile Metaverse experience that showcases the firm’s ability to maintain a large-scale community-driven service.

Currently, New Zealand hosts many companies providing crucial XR technology. Firms like Voxel and Weta have extensive XR portfolios, and Unity acquired the latter to combine Weta’s animation suite into the popular RT3D engine.
