PlayStation VR 2 Reportedly Entering Mass Production Soon

Rumors are circulating that the highly-anticipated console VR headset could be available for purchase this holiday season.

According to a report by 黑毛警长008, a respected Chinese supply chain analyst, Chinese hardware manufacturer Goertek will soon begin mass production of Sony’s PlayStation VR 2 headset. According to hardware analyst Brad Lynch, the company will be in charge of the production of not only the PSVR 2, but Project Cambria—Meta’s upcoming non-Quest VR headset—as well.

If the above-mentioned rumors are true, an official product reveal and release date may soon follow. It’s been almost a year since Sony announced a “next-generation” VR headset for the PlayStation 5. Since then the company has refrained from sharing too much beyond the existence of the hardware itself. That said, we did receive a good look at the new “Orb” VR controllers that will be used in tandemo with the PSVR 2.

Beyond that, we know little to nothing about the next-gen console headset. That said, a handful of patents filed by Sony hint at several potential features, such as 4K visuals, eye-tracking, and built-in haptics. According to a report released by Bloomberg this past June, the PlayStation VR 2 is expected to launch during the 2022 holiday season, though Sony has yet to confirm.

What we do know is that Pavlov VR will be among the first games available on the headset. As for when we’ll be able to get our hands on this new hardware, we’ll just have to wait and see.
