2017 Sundance Film Festival kicks off this week and it won’t be without VR.
It’s that time of the year again when art and technology converge on Park City, Utah for over a week of VR and immersive storytelling — along with some feature films too.
Kicking off Thursday, the 2017 edition of New Frontier at the Sundance Film Festival will once again include a full slate of curated VR exhibitions and immersive stories from some of the most innovative creators in the world. You can expect some 20 VR experiences and 11 installations, showcased between three venues in Park City.
The historic Claim Jumper (573 Main Street) will host seven immersive installations focused on cross-disciplinary story construction and two video works; the VR Palace (475 Swede Alley, Base Camp) will feature 15 VR experiences alongside additional installations; and the VR Bar (Music Café, 751 Main Street) will offer a lineup of mobile VR. Keep in mind, that due to the popularity of New Frontier, a ticket is now required for entry to the VR Palace at Base Camp and the New Frontier Exhibition at the Claim Jumper and VR Bar at the Music Café are now open to credential holders only.
Other locations worth stopping by throughout the day at Sundance also include the Jaunt VR Lounge located at 580 Main Street (10:30am – 5:00pm). Oculus is privately showing select VR works at the Oculus House (201 Heber Ave).
