Baobab’s ‘Asteroids!’ VR Short Film Now Available

Actor Elizabeth Banks and YouTube Creator Ingrid Nilson join the cast in this ‘INVASION’ sequel.

You remember INVASION!, right? The adorable animated VR short, from the director of Madagascar, delighted audiences last year with a colorful showcase of characters and an engaging plot narrated by Ethan Hawke.

In fact the only thing more exciting than the VR animation itself was the fact that it was merely the first in a series of upcoming episodes. Well if you’re one of the people who’s been waiting patiently for the next installment, like me, then boy do I have some good news for you.

Starting today episode two of Baobab’s cheeky VR series, ASTEROIDS!, is now available for free on mobile VR platforms including Daydream, Samsung Gear VR and Cardboard for IOS & Android. The 11-minute VR cinematic follows Mac, Cheez (played by Elizabeth Banks) and their trusty robotic pet Peas (played by Ingrid Nilsen). Users will help navigate the group to safety, forming tight-knit friendships along the way as you quickly become a revered member of the crew.

“ASTEROIDS! is completely social and interactive,” said Ingrid Nilsen, YouTube and lifestyle personality. “From the second the film starts, you are immediately immersed in a world where virtual animated characters become your friends and together, you experience emotions like humor, excitement and compassion, just as you would in real life.”

Once again Baobab has set the bar high with a well-made VR film that checks just about every box you can think of when it comes to quality VR entertainment. From its groundbreaking film techniques and captivating visuals, to its cast of well-known celebrities, ASTEROIDS! proves yet again that AAA VR animated films are real and here to stay. It’ll be thrilling to see not only where episode three takes us next, but which big-names could possibly be involved this time!

ASTEROIDS! is available now for free via YouTube 360, Facebook 360, Baobab VR app for iOS & Android, Google Daydream, Samsung Gear, Cardboard for IOS & Android and Windows MR.

Baobab Studios is lead by its executive team of Maureen Fan, Eric Darnell and Larry Cutler. The group has previously worked for other large names in gaming and animation such as Pixar, Zynga and DreamWorks Animation.
