The Tribeca Film Festival's Immersive Arcade Opens today, Friday, April 26th, featuring dozens of the most exciting new VR experiences in the world. We were there for press day yesterday and are working on our roundup. This 7th edition among the strongest. Who will we put on our Awesome List this year? Everything is in contention. It's that good. It runs through May 5th. If you're in New York, don't miss it.

TBD

10,000 RealWear HMDs heading to front line industrial workers in Kazakhstan. The Qualcomm Snapdragon powered headsets will be provided by UROS as part of a digitization project aiming to accelerate XR global adoption. The partnership between the three companies marks the largest order of industrial HMDs RealWear has had to date. The RealWear HMT-1 and HMT-1Z1 provide a heads up display and voice-powered controls.

Labster

Labster’s virtual laboratory simulations for students can be found in educational institutions around the world and the latest round of funding will be used for expanding its STEM content catalog. The series B was lead by Owl Ventures.

ThirdEye

ThirdEye Gen lands 5G partnership with Verizon and patents for improving its mixed reality glasses. The makers of the “smallest mixed reality glasses” will be Verizon’s first 5G smart glasses partner. Khronos Group aims to establish 3D assets standard for cross-vendor ecommerce. The consortium of companies is investigating possible standards for photorealistic 3D virtual objects that can be used consistently between platforms. With these standards in place, the same table for sale on two websites would look the same on a smartphone, in VR, or through AR glasses. Khronos Group invites any company, without cost or IP licensing obligations, to take part in the Exploratory Group researching possible solutions.

HTC Vive conducts survey of over 1800 VR developers. The survey highlights common pain points in the industry and what drives developers to continue creating content for virtual reality. While many developers consider audience adoption a challenge today, they believe VR will hit the mainstream within 3 to 4 years. The industries developers expect the greatest growth from in the coming years include gaming, training and simulation, education, film, and AEC. You can find a list of 8 key takeaways from the survey on the Vive blog.
