Earlier this week, select Xbox users in Italy were treated to a series of surprise messages referencing an update for a VR headset which has since resulted in an avalanche of rumors and speculation surrounding Microsoft’s current VR efforts. Unfortunately, it appears as though Microsoft is still in no rush to enter the VR market.

The technology behind Microsoft’s enterprise-focused computer vision camera, the Azure Kinect developer kit , will soon find its way into commercial products. Microsoft is collaborating with two companies, Analog Devices and SICK AG , to create commercial devices using Azure Kinect’s 3D Time of Flight (ToF) depth technology.

A message uncovered by IGN Italy when plugging in a pair of wireless headphones into an Xbox Series X/S caused a stir in the VR community, as it seemingly alluded to some level of VR support baked into Xbox consoles. Microsoft says however that the error message was inaccurate, and that VR for Xbox is still not a happening.
