This DJ’s virtual world will take your breath away.
During the first day of VR On The Lot, a virtual reality industry conference at Paramount Pictures Studios, Sony Music unveiled a new VR experience from superstar Norwegian DJ Kygo.
Set to the hit song “Carry Me,” this new music experience is a stunning look at what the future of music videos may look like. This is not your standard 360° music video, but instead an immersive experience that transports you into a light filled world of oceans, forests, mountains, skies and cosmic space.
Showcased for the first time on PlayStation VR, you immediately forget you’re surrounded by other conference attendees, as you lose yourself in the dancing environments. Music is the underlying force that drives the visuals. Every pulse, color and form comes to life, as Kygo guides you through this journey of creation.
MPC VR directed “Carry Me” and conceptualized the journey that literally “carries” you upward through a series of different environments. Throughout the course of this journey, you become larger as you’re transitioned through each environment, starting as the size of a cell and culminating into an incredible climax within a vast galaxy. Stressing the importance of Kygo’s presence within the experience, MPC VR flew a team to Norway to do a complete 3D scan of Kygo in his studio. This detailed model was then integrated using particles and forms to make him an integral part of the experience.
Made in collaboration with the Kygo, Sony Music International, Ultra Records, RCA Records and MPC VR, “Carry Me” was created using game engine technology to enable features that aren’t achievable using static 360° video capture. These features included the sensation of floating upward through each environment, stunning visuals and animations, scale and spatialization that allows you to step closer to objects or change their perspective based on the angle at which you’re were viewing.
