Oculus Rift Pulls Ahead Again In December Steam Hardware Survey

UploadVR

I was half expecting to write that the combined power of the Vive and Vive Pro had allowed HTC to regain the top spot it once held for so long in December’s Steam Hardware Survey. Turns out the opposite is true; the Oculus Rift gained ground this month. HTC looked like it had Oculus on the ropes. HTC focused on Pro for its Black Friday promotion and Oculus cut $50 off of the Rift.

Rift S Boosts Oculus, Index Starts Small In July Steam Hardware Survey

UploadVR

Late last week we reported on initial findings from the July Steam Hardware Survey. But Valve has since updated its listings to finally include the Oculus Rift S and its own Index headset. Obviously, we know the Steam Hardware Survey isn’t entirely dependable (it’s only an optional survey for Steam users), but to see the new Oculus headset catch up so quickly to an entire line of VR devices that have been available for a few years is surprising indeed.

Oculus Headsets Pass 50% Market Share In September Steam Hardware Survey

UploadVR

Oculus headsets now make up more than 50% of VR headsets on Steam, according to the September Hardware Survey. The gains are driven by sales of the Oculus Rift S , which jumped from 10.85% in August to 13.03% last month. Rift S is the replacement for the original Oculus Rift. Despite being priced as low as $150, Microsoft’s platform simply hasn’t stuck with Steam users, potentially due to a combination of weak branding and low quality hardware.

This framing of the information could be representative of Microsoft’s outlook.

Rift/Vive Gap Widens In February Steam Hardware Survey

UploadVR

The Oculus Rift continued to widen the gap with HTC Vive headsets in the latest Steam Hardware Survey results. It’s not too surprising; at the start of the year Oculus cut the price of the Rift to $349. Both are coming this year so we’ll be looking forward to seeing what impact they make on the Steam Hardware Survey. The same goes for the rumored Oculus Rift S headset. Will Microsoft be able to cross the 10% threshold in the coming months?

It’s the start of a new month so you know what that means; the latest Steam Hardware Survey is in. Once again the gap between the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive family of headsets has decreased. Rift S Surpasses Windows MR, Index Doubles In August Steam Hardware Survey

UploadVR

The Oculus Rift S is now used by more Steam users than all Windows MR headsets combined, according to the August Steam Hardware Survey. It may be that consumers did not feel the low prices were worth compromises in hardware quality, particularly tracking and controllers. It could, however, also be related to Microsoft’s weak branding of ‘Windows Mixed Reality’ which may have not had the same strength as Oculus and SteamVR.

Rift And Index Shrink Slightly, Vive Grows In October Steam Hardware Survey

UploadVR

Oculus Rift headsets and the Valve Index have surrendered a tiny share of overall VR headset usage to HTC Vive in October’s Steam Hardware Survey. Microsoft Releasing new XBox with Oculus Rift Support?

Multiple sources are claiming in 2017 Microsoft will release a new XBox, codenamed "Scorpio" with a more powerful GPU and with a 2TB drive. Since the minimum specification for Oculus is a GTX 970, in theory, a new upgraded XBox could certainly attain this level of performance. The rumor mill is busy today.
