United Nations To Conduct Annual ‘Global Youth Takeover’ Event Live In VR

Attendees will hear from global influencers before catching a live performance by Pitbull.

VR Education’s virtual education and training platform ENGAGE has been selected by the United Nations to host the organizations annual ‘Global Youth Takeover’ later this month, marking the first time the youth-focused event has been conducted in VR.

On October 24th, attendees can log on to ENGAGE via a compatible VR headset and explore the virtual event space, chat with fellow users, and enjoy a handful of live talks from a group of prolific global influencers (and Julianne Hough). This includes Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization; Julianne Hough, actress, performer, judge on America’s Got Talent; Siyabulela Mandela, journalist and grandson of the great Nelson Mandela; and Jayathma Wickramanayake, UN Undersecretary and UN Envoy on Youth.

And what better way to conclude a day of stimulating conversations and international cooperation than a live performance by American rapper Pitbull. No, seriously.

“With almost all physical events on hold for the foreseeable future, there has been a big increase in major organizations wanting to host virtual events,” David Whelan, CEO of VR Education. “We are delighted the United Nations has chosen the ENGAGE platform to host its annual ‘Global Youth Takeover’. Rather than just a simple 360 degree video, the ENGAGE platform will provide delegates with a fully immersive visual and audio journey. The concert from Pitbull at the conclusion will be one of the first times a major artist will have performed virtually, inside a fully rendered live environment.”

“The UN event will enhance the profile of the Group as the use of the ENGAGE platform grows strongly month on month.  We designed ENGAGE primarily as a communications tool for education and training, but we have quickly adapted it to address the needs of a variety of industries and event organizers as they look to generate revenue in this lock-down world.”

The United Nations Global Youth Takeover is just the latest live event to make the switch to a virtual format in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak. This year alone VR Education’s ENGAGE platform has been used by a wide variety of global organizations including, but not limited to: European Commission, Ericsson, Facebook, McKinsey & Company, the United States Air Force, and Yahoo.

“We believe ENGAGE is becoming a ‘must-have’ for organizations where video communication alone cannot meet their engagement needs.  ‘Zoom-fatigue’ is becoming common and ENGAGE provides an alternative to help companies better interact with remote teams, host large scale meetings and events, and conduct training, to name just a few uses.  We hope ENGAGE will become an everyday tool for companies for communications, training and employee development.”
