If you are a fan of rhythm games then Harmonix is a developer you have learned to know and appreciate. The creators of Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and Fuser, have also made some of the best virtual reality music games as well. In fact, the Boston-based developer’s Audica manages to blend a first-person shooter with rhythm elements to create a unique experience that will give your arms a test. There are 33 songs to play (with even more available as downloadable content), which will each have you shooting different color targets. With multiple difficulty settings and leaderboards, this has plenty of replayability and a nice learning curve.

Audio Trip

If you prefer to dance your way to burning calories then Audio Trip is a great option. Players stay active by using their arms to activate drums while also moving out of the way of barriers. It delivers a total body workout that can be made even more effective if you squat under barriers. There are also several popular artists in the soundtrack including  Lady Gaga, Skrillex, Zedd, and deadmau5.

Another incredible rhythm game is Audioshield, which was one of the very first virtual reality exercise games. Despite it being older, it’s still a great workout as it uses an enhanced version of the Audiosurf algorithm (also made by designer Dylan Fitterer) to create custom levels based upon the music you’re playing. You will get a great arm workout as you block objects with both hands and duck into different positions.

Audioshield has been given a fitness rating comparable to tennis by the VR Institute of Health and Exercise, although mods can bring it up to a biking equivalency. According to its Yur.fit rating, players will burn 5.5 calories per minute and average 75 squats per hour. The game is currently available for $19.99 on the Oculus Store.

Beat Saber

Of course, Beat Saber was going to make the list of the best Oculus Quest VR fitness games. Beat Games’ innovative rhythm game has become a phenomenon and is easy to play as it has you slicing different color beats with energy swords. While it’s a simple premise, it gets quite complicated on higher difficulty levels. There’s also an unmatched amount of replayability thanks to leaderboards and multiple gameplay variants. Plus, there is great DLC featuring artists like Green Day, Panic! at the Disco, and even the K-pop group BTS.

Blaston

One of the most unique titles on our list, Blaston is a cool twist on the bullet-hell shooter genre. While there are still countless bullets on-screen, they move in slow motion and players will have to move out of the way from them. The multiplayer battles are intense and it has quickly become a competitive favorite. There’s no lack of replayability and you will attempt to learn all of its nuances as you take on other players.

Creed: Rise to Glory

The first boxing game on our list is Creed: Rise to Glory. Based upon the “Rocky” film successor, it has you stepping in the shoes of Adonis Creed and face off against some of the larger-than-life boxers from the series. As you can expect from a boxing game, this is one of the best arm workouts in virtual reality as you will have to punch out your opponents. It’s not as realistic as some other boxing VR games, but it still has you focusing on defense and has a ton of replayability thanks to online play being available.

Creed: Rise to Glory has been given a fitness rating comparable to tennis by the VR Institute of Health and Exercise. The game has a Yur.fit rating of 6.4 calories burned per minute and the boxing title will have players performing an average of 29 squats per hour. Dance Central VR

FitXR

Originally known as BoxVR, FitXR has been renamed since it offers a lot more than just boxercise courses. It’s a full body workout that has been put together by personal trainers. Your legs and core will get toned as well, whether you are enjoying a multiplayer class or its hours of music solo. With multiple paid DLC packs adding even more content, there’s no shortage of workouts in the VR exclusive.

Holofit by Holodia

If you love using a bicycle or elliptical machine to exercise then Holofit can make your workouts even more exciting. Featuring several programs, it allows players to run, cycle, and row in 11 different worlds (ranging from underwater to Antarctica). If you don’t own exercise equipment, it can also use just your bodyweight (although that isn’t the ideal way to enjoy it).

Holofit requires a subscription to play (9.90€ a month or 108€ per year), although there is a free trial to check out. If your bicycle or elliptical machine isn’t FTMS Bluetooth enabled, a cadence sensor will allow it to work with Holofit.

Holopoint Oculus Edition

Holopoint has been the gold standard for virtual reality archery games, so it was great to see it get ported to Oculus Quest last year. It’s still a great workout and one of the most high-intensity exercises you can do in virtual reality. Players take on waves of enemies that they have to defeat with their bow and arrow, and it provides a great workout for your entire body.

In Death: Unchained

If you want a lower intensity arm workout then In Death is a great option. This archery title has players dodging out of the way of both arrows and melee strikes while also shooting foes with arrows. It helps separate itself from the crowd by incorporating rogue-lite elements, so it has plenty of replayability. The Quest port is excellent and is highlighted by a wide array of enemy types.

Ironlights

Depending on how intense your competitive matches get, this can become quite the workout.

Path of the Warrior

Developed by the talented team at Twisted Pixel, Path of the Warrior takes inspiration from classic beat ’em up titles. However, it feels much fresher thanks to the move to virtual reality. A great showcase for room-scale gaming, players will punch out enemies from every angle and can dodge attacks. It’s a great arm workout as a result.

It has received great post-launch support and recently added in goals and streaks to help you stay motivated.

Surprisingly available for free, VRWorkout is one of the best ways to get fit in virtual reality. It includes a variety of exercises including jumping, squatting, pushups, side planks, crunches, running, and burpees. While it’s an incredible tool, it doesn’t check for your surroundings, so make sure you are playing in an open space that is safe.

VRWorkout has a Yur.fit rating equal to an elliptical. Players will burn 4.4 calories per minute and average 146 squats per hour. It’s available for free on the Side Quest store.

VZfit

Best Oculus Quest VR Fitness Games

If you own a stationary bike, then you will want to get VZfit. The sensor attaches to your bike and works with its two VR apps. The Explorer app allows players to ride their bike anywhere in the world, while the Play app gives you 10 different games to test your endurance on. Both apps are tied to the VZfit subscription service, but it’s one of the best leg workouts in VR.
