Body tracking leaked from Quest SDK documentation. A leaked image from the Oculus team shows that the company is working to implement body tracking inside the Oculus Unity SDK. I hate how the speculation in the crypto world is risking to ruin what was one of the most interesting open social VR worlds in Europe.

Unity support for OpenXR is still in early beta , and so it’s not reliable yet to develop an OpenXR-compliant application in Unity. We Unity developers have still to use the current Unity tools that make us develop once, but then build for every different platform (like the ones I describe in this article ).

Maybe with eye tracking and some more screen resolution, it may have been. I think that someone is fooling us with specifications: of course, if I have to render the standard Unity cube at 120 Hz, maybe also a Raspberry can be enough… but this can’t count as a minimum specification. My favorite ones have been: Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed that the next PSVR headset will be called PSVR 2 and will feature 2K x 2K per eye, up to 120 Hz framerate, and 110° FOV. It will be the first consumer headset with eye-tracking and foveated rendering, and also the first one to feature haptics directly on the headset.

To me the situation seems similar to the one of the store: Vive Wave is an interesting project, because it plans to become the SteamVR of standalone headsets (at least all the Chinese ones), but it is still unripe (at the time of writing, it doesn’t even appear in the list of Unity VR SDKs). Half a point for Oculus.

In Europe, this marketing effort is just starting now, so the penetration is not that high, yet. In the USA, it is almost mainstream; in Europe, it is something for people that have some knowledge of gaming or technology; in South America, is very difficult to get a headset. Eye tracking. So, I put my Valve Index, opened BigScreen and developed in Unity in VR for 4 hours. The surprising thing is that I actually managed to develop in Unity for 4 hours, doing everything I needed, from using Visual Studio to cutting-and-pasting code from Stack Overflow.
