OC6: Respawn’s Long-Rumored Oculus VR Game Is A Medal Of Honor Exclusive

The historic WWII FPS shooter makes a surprise appearance at OC6.

Back at Oculus Connect 4 in 2017, it was revealed that Oculus Studios would be teaming up with veteran developer Respawn Entertainment [Titanfall 2, Apex Legends] to develop a new VR game exclusively for the Oculus platform. Today we learned that title is a new installment in the classic Medal of Honor franchise.

Announced during this morning’s Oculus Connect 6 keynote, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond throws you into the chaos of World War II, where you’ll serve as an Allied agent of the OSS (Office of Strategic Intelligence). Featuring a full narrative campaign, as well as online multiplayer, you’ll travel across a range of battlefields scattered across Europe as you work alongside the French resistance to interfere with and sabotage various Nazi operations.

“From the beginning, Medal of Honor has taught gamers about the tremendous sacrifice and heroic efforts made by earlier generations to safeguard our freedom,” says Peter Hirschmann, writer of the original Medal of Honor and director of this latest installment.

“Thanks to VR, we can actually put a player in the boots of a WWII soldier with Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond—the immersion that the Rift Platform provides lets us tell that story in a really meaningful way, sharing the full impact of the sacrifices and camaraderie of our shared history.”

“Interviewing veterans of WWII was an immense privilege and allowed us to ensure its respect and faithfulness to those who served. They’re helping us drive home the full emotional and historical weight of this subject matter with players in a way that really resonates.”

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond will be available exclusively on the Oculus Rift/Rift S in 2020.
