Monster Hunter Is Getting A Pokémon Go-Like AR Game

Explore the real world in search of fantastical creatures to fight.

Niantic, the creator of Pokémon Go and Pikmin Bloom, is collaborating with video game publisher CAPCOM to bring its most popular franchise, Monster Hunter, to the real world via augmented reality (AR) technology.

Arriving on mobile devices this September, Monster Hunter Now is a location-based AR game that will allow you to explore your physical surroundings in search of exotic monsters to hunt. According to Niantic, the game is designed for everyone, from absolute beginners to veteran monster hunters.

What’s especially interesting are the numerous “at-home” features. For instance, the game lets you tag monsters while you’re out and about using an item called the “Paintball” and battle them at home either by yourself or with a friend. You can even team up with a companion who will tag monsters for you without you even having to play.

Monster Hunter Now is a new and unprecedented Monster Hunter game that entices players to go out with their Palico and encounter incredible monsters in the real world,” said Ryozo Tsujimoto, producer of Monster Hunter. “Niantic’s AR technology delivers a ‘here and right now’ hunting experience, something that can be played casually while honoring the gameplay and hunting action that only Monster Hunter can offer. Let’s get out into the real world and enjoy hunting!”

Monster Hunter Now will be the ultimate experience for anyone who has dreamed of facing off against epic monsters and battling them with friends,” added John Hanke, founder and CEO of Niantic. “Filled with fantastical creatures, engrossing hunting, and opportunities for teamwork, with the best possible graphics on mobile devices, Monster Hunter Now is the perfect franchise to bring into the real world.”

Monster Hunter Now is scheduled to launch on iOS and Android devices in September 2023. Those interested can sign up for a chance to win a spot in the upcoming closed beta. For more information visit here.
