I’m in a vast open space under a beautiful Bodhi tree, the green-leafed branches stretching towards the heavens. I am calmed immediately, welcomed by chirping birds and nature sounds. The living color of the environment swirls around me, and I’m greeted by a soothing voice that is my guide throughout a deeply serene yet invigorating acid trip through the cosmos.

With a couple of weeks remaining in the current season, sim racing enthusiasts are beginning to anticipate iRacing’s next quarterly update, and Road to VR has received confirmation that it will include expanded VR support. Having rolled out its initial consumer VR update in June for the Oculus Rift , iRacing will add support for the HTC Vive headset in the next build, tentatively scheduled for September 6th.

Last Friday VR startup Radd3 invited people out for a free screening of the emotional documentary Gleason. sf.funcheap.com/gleason-friday-night-film-showing-berkeley/ Gleason was a recent hit at Sundance because it is a compelling personal journey through struggle and triumph. CatsAndVR is a site focused on VR but since I attended this screening due in part of a VR startup I feel compelled to write a review.

STRATA is a new virtual reality experiment from The Mill that taps into biometric data – heart rate, breathing etc. – and produces beautiful procedurally generated worlds to match. No Man’s Sky is the latest and possibly the most high profile example of procedurally generated virtual environments, where in theory no world you ever visit is the same as the last, based on a series of algorithms and systems defined by the programmers.

If you attended VRLA Summer Expo you know that the VR Rave was amazing. During the rave Skullcandy allowed attendees to demo the brand’s first VR audio headphone, the new Crusher VRA. I have been a fan of Skullcandy's many products for a while including the Plyr 1 and Slyr headphone lines. From my past experience with their products it is my honest opinion Skullcandy is looking to bring a great immersion VR product to market not just a pair of headphones with VR slapped on.

Microsoft have just launched a new HoloLens ‘Commercial Suite’ which packages the augmented reality visor as ready for business with numerous new features and benefits for business buyers. Microsoft’s augmented reality visor HoloLens has been available to developers for some time, with the development kit edition of the device originally launched in October last year, with buyers asked to lay down a cool $3000 for the privilege.

Today at the Intel Developer Forum event in San Francisco, Intel revealed Project Alloy, an all-in-one mobile virtual reality headset which the company says will launch in 2017 as an “open platform.” On stage at IDF 2016, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich unveiled the new headset during the opening keynote. The Alloy headset, which has fully on-board processing and sensors, is said to be capable of tetherless virtual reality, thanks to an ‘inside-out’ positional tracking solution
