HTC Brings VR to Hotel Guests in China

HTC has partnered with IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group) to bring HTC Vive VR systems to select hotels in China.

Launched on October 31, IHG is the first international hotel group in China to provide guests with VR amenities, including in-room experiences. If you’re a guest in one of the three hotels in Beijing, Shanghai and Sanya, you’ll be able to immerse yourself in a “Vive Zone” that offers a selection of VR games and entertainment.

HTC stated in an announcement that guests will also have the opportunity to enjoy VR content through their Viveport platform for a “fully digitalized entertainment moment in their rooms.” Its not clear whether this means an HTC Vive system will be delivered to your room door, but during the press announcement in China, HTC and IHG showed off sparkly co-branded cases that can be used to transport the HTC Vive.

“Virtual reality will have a deep and positive impact on many businesses, and the hospitality industry is one of the first to take advantage of its benefits,” said Alvin W. Graylin, China Regional President of Vive, HTC. “We are excited to work with IHG to deliver the world’s first VR-Ready guest rooms and provide superior level of immersive experiences which will delight their customers in China, and soon globally.”

Maybe not the way some want to spend their vacation by being in VR. But for some guests who have never tried VR, especially room-scale, the HTC Vive may be the most exciting thing they’ll do during their stay. Hotel Indigo Shanghai On The Bund, Crowne Plaza Beijing Sun Palace and InterContinental Sanya Resort are the first hotels to kick of the VR partnership with expansion planned for more hotels in China in the future.
