DreamWorks Bringing Kung Fu Panda and Shrek to VR

These iconic DreamWorks characters will be coming to a VR headset near you. Thanks to a partnership announced Tuesday, DreamWorks Animation is teaming up with Digital Domain to produce virtual reality content and experiences for the family entertainment company’s most iconic and legendary characters. The partnership will begin with the worlds of Shrek and Kung Fu Panda in VR, with other franchises planned in the coming months.

NVIDIA Says New Foveated Rendering Technique is More Efficient, Virtually Unnoticeable

NVIDIA Research has demonstrated a new method of foveated rendering which the company says is nearly invisible to users. Researchers behind the new approach say the method can drastically reduce rendering workload, allowing for more detailed virtual reality scenes. The human eye only really detects significant detail in a tiny area at the center of our field of vision, thanks to a small pit in the back of the retina called the fovea.

Mr. Robot to have VR experience but it is available for a REALLY limited time.

One of the major events going down during San Diego Comic Con is the debut of a VR experience for the smash USA drama Mr. Robot. The 12 minute VR experience was written and directed by Mr. Robot show creator, Sam Esmail , produced in partnership with Here Be Dragons, and presented on Chris Milk’s Within platform. The experience will only be available to view at 10:45am PT/1:45pm EST on Thursday, July 21st.
