Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-Ality Releases April 20 For Rift And Vive

Owlchemy Labs unexpectedly announced the launch date for Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-Ality. In a pretty awesome surprise, it comes out April 20 — just eight days away for both Rift and Vive.

Owlchemy is of course the Texas-based creator of Job Simulator, which cleared $3 million in sales last year releasing on Rift, Vive and PSVR headsets. The game represented a breakthrough in VR design as the creators developed pioneering work to make seemingly simple interactions work in VR. A cup of coffee, for instance, demanded more than 800 hours of time from Owlchemy CTO Devin Reimer as they discovered all the systems they needed to build to make it convincing in VR to simply press a button and pour a hot cup of joe into a cup.

Rick and Morty is the popular cartoon from creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, and we expect the VR game to build on many of the systems Owlchemy built for Job Simulator while pairing it with the hilarious sci-fi themes of the show itself.

There’s a Steam page up for the game, including the following list of features:

  • It’s your favorite 2D characters in 3D. It’s RICK AND MORTY VR! They’re 3D now!
  • Probe, prod, throw, and smash iconic items like the Plumbus.
  • Also, it’s got this thing!
  • Teleport around rooms and walk through portals.
  • No really! You walk with your actual feet through virtual portals!
  • Get yelled at by Rick, and question your own self worth.
  • Smack Rick in the face.
  • Real fake doors!
