While Oculus doesn’t offer much publicly in the way of understanding how well individual games & apps are performing across its Quest 2 storefront, it’s possible to glean some insight by looking at apps relative to each other. Here’s a snapshot of the 20 best rated Oculus Quest games and apps as of July 2022. Some quick qualifications before we get to the data: Paid and free apps are separated.

There is one last experience I want to tell you about from my trip to AWE USA a few months ago: the time I visited XCOM Labs to try its remote rendering solution! XCOM Labs. A few friends of mine suggested I visit the booth of XCOM Labs , so I booked a meeting to try their solution in one of their private rooms. As soon as I arrived, an employee made me wear a HoloLens and walk around to see a complete baseball stadium scene rendered around me via servers that were there in the room with me.

In its announcement of Red Matter 2 earlier this year, developer Vertical Robot made the ambitious claim that it would deliver the “best graphics on mobile VR to date.” And now a new video shows the studio backing up its claim with some evidence. While the Quest 2 library certainly has some great looking games, most have targeted a low-poly art style to match the headset’s limited processing power.

Nearly four years after its early access debut, indie VR gem COMPOUND has launched version 1.0 on PC VR, including an updated demo for anyone to try. The game is expected to come to Quest as well later this year. Though little-known, Compound is the 6th best-rated VR game according to Steam (with an ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ 97% rating) and the 12th best-rated according to Steam250 (which uses its own algorithm to determine rankings).

Ubisoft reveal during its Q1 2022 earnings call that it’s cancelling a number of titles in the pipeline, including Splinter Cell VR. The company says it’s stopped development on Splinter Cell VR, Ghost Recon Frontline, and two unannounced titles. A new prototype experience brings the infamous Nintendo 64 game to life on headsets , and it’s not half-bad… In May of 1999, Superman 64 launched on Nintendo 64 consoles. A recent SteamVR beta release included a hidden feature that allows the user’s playspace boundary to be set up in a passthrough mode which could eventually be used for existing SteamVR headsets or a future headset from Valve. Users of Quest or Rift S will be familiar with passthrough playspace setup.
