Dr. Mehmet Cengiz Öz, better known by the simplified monicker, “Dr. Oz,” has quite the extensive resume. He is a cardiothoracic surgeon and professor at Columbia University as well as an author, speaker and television promoter. Now, you can add “virtual reality evangelist” to that list as well. Öz recently co-founded a company called ShareCare — a web platform designed to help users create profile based, data driven hubs for their online medical records.

HoloLamp debuted its augmented reality projector system this week at CES 2017, the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas. The projector makes it possible for augmented reality to interact with real objects, and no special glasses or smartphone are required to see its animated images. The result looks a lot like that scene in Star Wars where Chewbacca and R2-D2 are playing a board game and C-3PO implores the droid to “Let the wookie win.”.

Hyperica is a a grid with an in-world hyperport as well as an online directory of destinations. For the past few years, the Hyperica grid and website has been a directory of hypergrid destinations for OpenSim users. Nearly 40,000 people have visited the site over the past two years, with more than 330,000 page views total. Those are decent numbers for OpenSim, but are tiny compared to the traffic that Hypergrid Business gets.

HTC has announced a serious looking upgrade for its Vive headset at CES 2017. The ‘Deluxe Audio Strap’ replaces the original device’s harness and upgrades it with integrated headphones and a new, more robust adjustable head assembly. At CES 2017, HTC may not be announcing the next generation of the Vive headset, but it is concentrating very hard on giving the existing Vive owner every opportunity to enhance their experience with their hardware.
