Now the company is developing a new haptic programming system which aims to help game developers make better haptics effects for their games, faster. Yesterday we attended the Samsung Unpacked 2017 event in New York City where company launched new products including the new Galaxy S8 and S8+ as well as the new Samsung Gear 360 camera. In fact, at the event Samsung gave everyone in attendance their own personal Gear 360 device to record the launch experience together at the same time. This camera.

When I first saw Giant Cop early last year, it was one of VR’s very best tech demos. How could it not be? Towering over a city block, picking up civilians and mercilessly dangling them like a key chain, or throwing them across the map was one of the most amusing and entertaining things I’d done in a headset. It was the perfect instrument to show off the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive in five minute windows.

Last week Oculus released its latest Studios title, Rock Band VR, bringing the dream of being a rock star into many people’s living rooms. Downward Spiral: Prologue (2017) is a sci-fi adventure game that takes you into a lovingly recreated ’70s retro future of CRT monitors and space stations abound. When I played the first chapter of Twilight Pioneers on Daydream late last year I was surprised by how not terrible it was. NetEase’s VR debut was a pretty competent first-person hack and slash game which made good use of the Wii-like motion controller. I just could have done with a little more of it. Well, I got my wish this week as Chapter 2 hit, and Twilight Pioneers continues to impress me as an enjoyable sword combat game for a platform that’s almost completely devoid of them.

It’s hard to believe that we’re already a quarter of the way through 2017. It feels like just yesterday the Upload team was gathered in Las Vegas to kick the year off at CES.
