Today, Virtuix debuted a beta version of its unique Omni One treadmill, allowing users to explore virtual reality (VR) by walking over conventional controller input.

The omnidirectional treadmill device lets users walk or run in any desired direction. Virtuix is shipping the Omni One product to its investor community. Later this year, the Austin-based firm will distribute the product across US consumer markets. Already, the firm has a waitlist consisting of roughly 35,000 subscribers.

The Omni One treadmill package includes a Pico Neo 3 Pro headset, allowing buyers to experience roughly 30 titles. Moreover, the hardware package requires no extra computing devices besides the treadmill and Pico headset.

Jan Goetgeluk, the Founder and CEO of Virtuix added:

Other VR treadmills on the market merely act like accessories for players who already own a VR headset and gaming PC. Omni One is a complete system suitable for the mass consumer market, not just for VR enthusiasts and PC gamers.

Virtuix claims that the Omni One product lets users walk or run in virtual worlds. Moreover, the product allows for “unrestricted” and full-body movements, including crouching, kneeling, and jumping. To protect users, the Omni One integrates safety features to keep operators from falling and colliding with their surroundings.

The device is lighter and more compact when compared to the previous model, the Omni Pro. The Omni One product is approximately 4 feet wide (120 cm) and 5 feet long (150 cm), with a minimum height of 4 feet (120 cm). Additionally, the complete Omni One product weighs around 150 pounds (70 kg).

Virtuix is debuting the Omni One product for $2,595 plus shipping; alternatively, customers can grab the device via a $65 monthly payment plan. Moreover, the product’s price points include a Pico Neo 3 Pro headset with a market value of $699.

In an exclusive comment made to XR Today, Goetgeluk noted:

The feedback from users so far has been terrific. The good news is that we already have a wait list of over 35,000 people that have expressed interest in buying Omni Ones within the next few years. We have more demand than we can handle and we’re very excited to see where Omni One can go the next few years.

From Commerical to Consumer

The Omni One product marks Virtuix’s commitment to consumer markets. Previously, the firm saw great success distributing its previous omnidirectional treadmill model [Omni Pro].

The Omni Pro product found commercial homes in roughly 45 entertainment venues worldwide. Moreover, Goetgeluk said the original commercial model hosted over “3 million plays” at entertainment venues with a community of over 300,000 registered players.

Goetgeluk noted how, after a challenging development process, which saw Virtuix overcome hurdles relating to supply chain shortages and the pandemic, the design team managed to achieve its original visions of an active VR entertainment system for the home.

Goetgeluk explains how demand for an at-home model of the Omni Pro device from commercial end-users promoted the Omni One eventual launch.

The Founder and CEO added:

Pent-up demand from our fans is what prompted us to launch a home product. Given our success in the out-of-home market, we’re uniquely positioned to bring our popular full-body VR experience to millions of homes around the world
