Researchers based out of the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are working on an augmented reality (AR) headset that uses holograms to guide users toward hidden objects. The device can even verify whether or not the user has picked up the specific object they are looking for using a combination of wireless signals and computer vision technology.

The Foglands is a “VR Dungeon Crawler Shooter” planned for all major VR headsets. Sony premiered a trailer announcing the game and confirmed it for PlayStatationVR2. From a studio called Well Told Entertainment, you can see the atmosphere and storytelling teased in the trailer below. The developers say the Steam VR release timing is still to be announced but it’s coming to Quest 2 and PlayStation VR2 in 2023.

The Verge’s Alex Heath reports Meta canceled hardware codenamed Cardiff. In his Command Line weekly newsletter, Heath writes he “ heard of at least two early-stage hardware prototypes, one codenamed Cardiff and the other Hermosa, that have been canned recently.” In May last year, The Information said it viewed an internal Meta roadmap showing the next two mainline headsets after Quest 2 and the first two high-end headsets (the first being the Quest Pro released in October).

Shahram Mokhtari took apart the new headset to assess its repairability and inspect its components in a fascinating video we recommend you watch.
