Resident Evil 4 Remake VR Mode Will Support 'Full Main Story' On PSVR 2, First Trailer Here

A new VR Mode trailer for Resident Evil 4 dropped at today's PlayStation Showcase. Plus, it's now confirmed that the 'full main story' will be playable on PSVR 2.

The trailer gives us our first look at what it'll be like to play the 2023 remake of this Capcom classic in VR. At the end of the trailer, Capcom also confirmed (once again) that the VR Mode is "in development" – which is something we've heard before – but stopped short of confirming a solid release date.

The PlayStation blog also confirmed that the "full main story will be playable with PlayStation VR2" in VR Mode. Capcom originally announced VR support for the remake as just 'PSVR 2 content' without any indication of what that included. It's nice to finally get confirmation that we'll be able to play the entire main campaign on PSVR 2, though that likely means that extras like Mercenaries Mode won't be supported in VR, as is the case with Resident Evil Village.

The PlayStation blog also gave a few more tidbits about how the remake will translate to PSVR 2. The game's perspective changes from third-person to "fully immersive first-person view" for VR, as you would expect, and you'll be able to swing the iconic knife "more freely" than ever when playing in VR. The blog post also say you'll be "able to wield Leon’s powerful and varied arsenal with an immersive and authentic feel" on PSVR 2, featuring "VR-adapted action elements."

This isn't the first time Resident Evil 4 has made its way over to VR, with a reimagined version of the original already available for the Quest platform. The comparison between the two will be quite interesting when VR Mode launches for PSVR 2.

The PlayStation blog says to "stay tuned" for more information on the VR Mode release date, which will arrive as free DLC for owners of the existing PlayStation 5 version of the game.
