With the show floor still closed, the highlight of the day has been the speech by Unity CEO John Riccitiello that spoke about the metaverse , telling us what he thinks it is and how he thinks it can evolve. Let me tell you something about it… including the very embarrassing moment I had with him, which you absolutely can’t lose.

Sony just wrapped its summer State of Play event, teasing a number of exciting games for the PlayStation 5. This includes several long-awaited reveals of the PlayStation VR2 , the company’s next console VR headset. “This week, AWE is all about dreams” according to event co-founder Ori Inbar’s welcome address. It was also about presence and how both augmented reality and virtual reality companies are trying to achieve it. Opening Day Keynotes. The first day of the Augmented World Expo (AWE) started with a marathon session on the main stage. Unity, Qualcomm, and the XR Association (XRA) followed Inbar’s welcome address with keynotes of their own.

Meta is still pretty camera-shy when it comes to showing off Project Cambria, the company’s upcoming high-end VR headset which offers AR passthrough. It’s been intentionally blurred for its few on-screen demos, however now we may have just gotten a look under the hood. YouTuber and tech analyst Brad Lynch (SadlyItsBradley) released a number of images in a post on his Patreon page which appear to be CAD files of Project Cambria.

Announced today during the PlayStation State of Play event, Resident Evil 8: Village has been confirmed for PSVR 2, and signs point to the game being fully playable in PSVR 2 with motion controls. . Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was the first Resident Evil game to ever get official VR support back on PSVR, and while it was quite immersive at the time the game was held back by a lack of motion controller support.

TRIPP, a developer creating VR meditation experiences, announced it’s secured $11.2 million funding round which it says will be used to expand so it can meet growing global demand for mental wellbeing apps accessible through AR, VR and mobile platforms. The Series A was led by BITKRAFT Ventures, with participation from Qualcomm, Amazon Alexa Fund, HTC, Niantic and existing investor Mayfield.

PlayStation VR 2 doesn’t have a release date yet, although Sony is promising to toss out a number of game trailers today that might give us a good idea of at least some of the launch content arriving alongside the company’s next-gen VR headset. The video goes live today at 3PM PT ( local timezone here ), and promises to deliver “some exciting reveals from our third-party partners, plus a sneak peek at several games in development for PlayStation VR 2.”.

Capcom’s Resident Evil 8 will get full support for PSVR 2 once it’s released. A trailer showed some of the game’s classic scenes now played with a VR headset. The trailer seemed to suggest that players will have full hand controls in the game and not be limited to a gamepad like the PSVR support for Resident Evil 7 on the original PSVR.

Sony confirmed The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Chapter 2: Retribution is coming to both the original PSVR headset and PSVR 2. While not a huge surprise, the upcoming follow-up to the 2020 title will release on both the original and upcoming PSVR headsets alongside PC VR and Quest 2.
