Mars rover spots gusty weather blowing across the Martian desert

Martian weather is awfully dusty. A camera aboard NASA's Mars Curiosity rover — a car-sized robot that's explored the planet for nearly a decade — recently spotted a dusty wind gust blowing over the red desert. You can see the weather in the footage below, which was captured by one of the machine's Hazard-Avoidance Cameras, or Hazcams. The top image shows the Hazcam footage, while the bottom shows frames processed (with "change detection software") to help visualize how the gust move

From over 100 miles above the surface, a NASA satellite spotted dry ice and gullies inside a Martian crater. It gets quite chilly on Mars during its winter — NASA's rovers contend with temperatures of -140 degrees Fahrenheit , though it gets much colder at the poles — allowing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to condense into dry ice. In this image, wintertime CO2 frost is found closer to the equator, where it's usually a bit too "warm" for dry ice to exist.
