Catalyst’s new Total Protection case makes your iPhone 12 completely washable

Case maker Catalyst has announced the Total Protection series of cases for the Apple iPhone 12 range. What makes them a little bit different, and totally on point for the world we currently live in, is they cover the whole phone in a protective, washable shell. What’s more, these tough cases are still compatible with Apple’s new MagSafe charging technology, despite the additional layers.

What exactly do we mean by washable? The Total Protection cases completely seal your iPhone away from the outside world, covering the back, the screen, and all the ports and buttons. The result is a water-resistant case tested to a depth of 10 meters, which is not only able to be washed in soap and water, but also in disinfectants made up of 70% isopropyl alcohol or 70% ethanol. That should give owners some peace of mind their phone is not a germ-harboring cesspit.

Aside from the cleanliness, the Total Protection case will withstand drops from up to 2 meters (6.5 feet), meaning almost regardless of how you treat your iPhone, it should remain safe and working. Catalyst says the case will work with Apple’s MagSafe charging system and other Qi wireless chargers, so you won’t have to remove it before using one. The side of the case has a clever rotating button to activate the mute switch on the iPhone too, so all functionality remains.

Finally, there are two different attachment points for a lanyard, and the case has been specially designed so the speakers and the microphone aren’t affected by the wraparound case. Catalyst even claims they will even sound better than when the phone is out the case. The Total Protection case is available for the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and the iPhone 12 Max. It costs $90, comes only in Stealth Black, and is available for pre-order from January 11.

It is joined at CES 2021 by three new colors, neon yellow, neon pink, and Bondi Blue, for the Catalyst Vibe case, which also protects the entire phone, plus a Pacific Blue and Army Green version of the Catalyst Influence case which doesn’t have a screen cover. Both these cost $40 and will be available for pre-order from January 11.

The iPhone 16’s huge redesign has leaked. Here’s what’s new
iPhone 15 Pro Max lying on the ground surrounded by leaves.

Apple fans might be in for a lukewarm surprise when Apple releases its next wave of iPhones this fall season. Over the past few weeks, numerous outlets — including 91 Mobiles and MacRumors – and independent insiders have shared alleged CAD-based renders of the entire iPhone 16 portfolio.

In 2024, it seems Apple will shower more love on the entry-point models, bestowing them with a slight design refinement on the rear shell. Leaks suggest the camera island on the iPhone 16—and likely its Plus variant as well—will get a pill-shaped makeover. Other changes are reported for the 16 Pro and Pro Max models. There's a lot to cover, so let's dig in.
The iPhone 16's brand-new design
On the current-generation iPhone 15 duo, we get diagonally arranged camera lenses positioned atop a square-ish glass bump. In the upcoming versions, Apple is reportedly replacing it with a vertical pill-like camera island, mirroring the look we first saw on the iPhone X.

iPhone 15 Pro in Natural Titanium held in hand in front of a wooden gate.

Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro is what we consider one of the best iPhones that you can buy right now. It offers most of the latest cutting-edge tech from Apple, including the powerful new A17 Pro chip, an improved camera system, a beautiful ProMotion display, a titanium body, the new Action button, and USB-C. It’s Apple’s most premium phone but in a compact size.

But if you’re in the market for a new phone, you should know there are other options, too. You don’t necessarily need the latest and greatest from Apple, especially if you’re not truly vested in its ecosystem.
