The animated gif platform that finally brought meaning to office Slack chats through an endless selection of shareable GIFs is now surprising us in VR. Giphy has launched a new VR app, Museum of GIF Art (MoGA), that looks to be the first ever virtual reality GIF art museum.

Aldin Dynamics has released a detailed breakdown of user data gathered during over 300,000 sessions of Waltz of the Wizard gameplay. Launched in May 2016, the motion-controlled VR game was developed with the insights gained from using Aldin’s own data visualisation tool Ghostline. Dedicated to VR software development since early 2013, Aldin Dynamics is one of the most experienced studios in the world, launching software on Oculus developer kits and Gear VR.

VR motion control comes to AirMech: Command , and the game has been released on Steam with support for multiple VR headsets and controllers through OpenVR. The game originally appeared as a launch title for the Oculus Rift in March 2016. Drawing direct inspiration from pioneering real-time strategy title Herzog Zwei , AirMech started life as a free-to-play game on PC in 2012, where it has remained an open beta.

Independent studio Time of Virtual Reality (TVR) has announced it will bring the virtual reality game Ancient Amuletor to PlayStation®VR* this summer. This action tower defense title throws players into the ancient world to battle magical creatures, monsters and other legendary threats in both single-player and cooperative multiplayer for up to four players.

I sort of see the new Vive Trackers as like the post-it notes of VR, in that I want to stick them to absolutely everything. I often walk down the street looking at things you could virtualize by clamping HTC’s new peripheral to them. In fact I probably scare people when they see me contemplating a trash can and talking to myself about what it could do for VR.

Catomic is not just any old match-3 game, but a match-3 games featuring CATS! Game studio On5 is preparing a their new title “Catomic” for launch on March 15. In this free to play game the player needs to join objects by three or more in order to get more advanced objects. As the player progresses, the cats’ space program develops. The space exploration starts with zeppelins, then flight on machines heavier than air (by Whisker brothers), and commercial airlines.

Speaking with Oculus’ VP of content, Jason Rubin at GDC 2017, UploadVR asked him about the tracking issues reported by some owners of the Rift VR headset and Touch VR controllers. The ongoing legal drama between Oculus chief technology officer John Carmack and his former employer ZeniMax continues today with Carmack suing the company. The complaint filed on behalf of Carmack alleges ZeniMax refuses to make a final payment stemming from the $150 million purchase in 2009 of id Software, the company Carmack co-founded in the ’90s most well known for creating the Doom franchise.

As the prices on VR cameras slowly tick down, one company has figured out how to speed that process up, by letting you take VR footage using two stacked Android smartphones. Aimfire’s Camarada , which means “friends + camera” in Spanish, can take traditional 2D footage and display it in zoomable VR. Dreadhalls is one of the first VR horror games made for the VR headsets which emerged with the rise of Oculus, and now the game is finally on Steam. Dreadhalls sees players navigating a maze of long dark corridors in search of an exit, with terrifying creatures waiting in various rooms. Vimeo didn’t pick the best timing to announce its support for 360 video streaming, but it’s finally here at least. The online video service yesterday announced Vimeo 360 , its new platform that allows any to upload panoramic content that can be hosted in up to 8K. As you’d expect, the launch comes with support for a smartphone app so you can watch content on Gear VR and Daydream headsets along with others.

Kittypocaylpse might be one of VR’s most guilt-ridden games, getting you to blow up scores of aliens disguised as adorable kittens. For its second game, Dick Wilde, developer Bolverk Games is going with a slightly more acceptable form of animal slaughter. Dick Wilde isn’t a tower-defense game like Kittypocalypse, though. There’s something of a renaissance for sci-fi racers lately thanks at least somewhat to the every-growing popularity of VR. With amazing homages to games past like Redout and Grip cashing in on the greatest racers of the genre from the original PlayStation era, it’s nice to see a game that takes something familiar and goes off the beaten path. In the case of Vector 36, racing goes way off the path and out into the wild rocky wastes of Mars.
