Stereo camera company Stereolabs has launched pre-orders for the ZED Mini , a smaller version of their stereo depth-mapping camera which fits on a mount made to attach to VR headsets like the Rift and Vive. When attached, the camera provides stereo pass-through video and real-time depth and environment mapping, turning the headsets into dev kits emulating the capabilities of high-end AR headsets of the future.

There wasn’t any mention of Samsung getting into the Windows ‘Mixed Reality’ program when it was announced last year, which saw OEMs like Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo tapped to create VR headsets around the same reference design. A recent leak however, showing a rendering of a Samsung-built VR headset emblazoned with a “Windows Mixed Reality” symbol, suggests otherwise.

The biggest update ever to EVE: Valkyrie (2016) is launching today. Called ‘Warzone’, the expansion brings with it a number of big features including support for PC and PS4, new maps, and a whole reworking of ship classes and abilities that essentially makes it feel more like the popular team-based shooter Overwatch (but in space). Since its initial release in March 2016 on Oculus Rift, EVE: Valkyrie has gone on to support cross-play between Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR.

MasterCard and Swarovski disclosed that two companies joined forces up to create a new virtual reality shopping app for browsing through a virtual home filled with crystal objects designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid, designer Tomás Alonso and many others. According to Cnet.com, the app could mean that VR and augmented-reality shopping will start to grow in the luxury markets.

I traveled a lot in the past few weeks. All the hotels I stayed in had something in common: they had clean towels and fresh bed sheets. But what if they didn’t? If the towels were dirty or the sheets looked like they were slept in, I would had complained. But what if the hotel said: you are right: these are the old sheets, but we vacuumed the bed; these are the towels that the previous guest used, but we sprayed some Fabreze on them.

Thanks to its comprehensive VR support on PC, Project CARS 2 is another great showcase for VR sim racing, offering better performance than Project CARS (2015) in a much more compelling package. Addressing many of its predecessor’s shortcomings, the sequel is a welcome addition to the sim racing scene—but rather like the original, it needs more time to bake.
