‘Doom VFR’ Coming to PSVR and HTC Vive, Here’s the Reveal Trailer

What was an earlier version of Doom for VR announced last year has evolved into a full title from Id Software, now titled Doom VRF. The game will be released for PlayStation VR and the HTC Vive. On stage during Bethesda’s E3 2017 press conference the company revealed a more developed version of their in-development VR version of Doom. Now titled Doom VFR (an acronym which we can only guess involves a certain F word), the game looks a lot more mature than when we tried it at E3 last year.

Two Heroes Spend 48 Hours In VR So You Don’t Have To

A couple of brave VR enthusiasts ignore warnings and spend nearly two days fully immersed. No matter which virtual reality headset you choose, every manufacturer will include the same universal warning for any user: Do not wear your headset for an extended period of time. It makes total sense after all. The weight the headsets place on your face combined with a tiny screen strapped just inches from your eyes results in an experience that could be less than comfortable after prolonged use.

E3 2017: Doom and Fallout 4 Coming To VR This Year

Bethesda confirmed that VR versions of Doom and Fallout 4 are coming in 2017. Fallout 4 is coming in October 2017 to the HTC Vive while Doom VFR was also confirmed to be coming this year. The latter title is planned for both PlayStation VR and Vive. There’s no word yet on whether or not the titles might support the Oculus Rift, even unofficially through Steam — Bethesda parent company ZeniMax won a $500 million judgment against Oculus earlier this year in a case centered on Oculus C

The two firms also aim to accelerate growth in the AR and VR industries. Yahoo! Japan, which has more 90 million daily users for its internet media, joins HP as a big company that wants to make sure it hitches a ride on the AR and VR gravy trains.

At Microsoft’s pre-E3 keynote today, we’ve seen plenty of non-VR games coming to the Xbox console family, now including XBox One X (formerly Project Scorpio). But with still no clue of possible VR support to come for the 4K console, the second installment of Lucky’s Tale (2016), called Super Lucky’s Tale, is apparently coming to XBox One as a console exclusive with no clear sign that VR support is in the cards.

It appears that at least some version of developer id Software’s classic shooter franchise is coming to VR headsets. Last year Bethesda had a virtual tour mode showcasing environments from the 2016 reboot, but it’s not clear how this will differ from that game.
