Media Molecule, the creators of LittleBigPlanet (2008) and Tearaway (2013) , have been working on their upcoming game/game-creation tool Dreams for PS4 for the past few years, and although we knew PSVR support was destined to come someday, as first announced at Paris Games Week 2015 , we weren’t sure if PSVR users would get the chance to play at launch.

Niantic Levels the Pokémon GO Playing Field Between iPhone & Android with ARCore Support

Next Reality AR

Players of Pokémon GO on Android now have a reason to turn on AR mode with the release of AR+ support via ARCore. Pokémon GO enthusiasts on iOS have had access to AR+ mode on ARKit-compatible iPhones and iPads (yes, I can attest to playing the game on a tablet, don't @ me) since Dec. 2017. Thanks to the horizontal surface detection in the respective AR toolkits, Pokémon appear anchored to the ground or other flat surfaces and locked into their appropriate scale based on their distance from the p

The Future of eLearning in 2022: A Sensitive Eye for Authentic Translation and Localization

Speaker: Chris Paxton McMillin, President of D3 Training Solutions

To avoid awkward and sometimes disastrous learning content, instructional designers must use authentic translation in the right context to get optimal results. For example, even a simple phrase like “got milk” translates to “are you lactating” in Mexico. Can you imagine what a straight translation might do to your course? With over 317 million people in the US and over 6.7 billion potential customers in the world, personalizing training seems logical.

A journey in some interesting Italian VR startups at Milan Games Week 2018: AnotheReality, Beyond The Gate and many more!

The Ghost Howls

This Saturday I have been to the Milano Games Week. If you don’t know what it is, I can describe it as the little Italian brother of the Gamescom: it is much smaller, but it features anyway a lot of games , both from popular major players and from indies. I went there to try some virtual reality stuff and I can say with much satisfaction that there was a satisfying number of VR installations.

Road to VR

FlyInside FSX , the crowdfunded VR plugin for Microsoft Flight Simulator X (2006) , was built well before first-party VR motion controllers existed, developed back in the DK2-era of 2015 as an ad hoc way of jumping into an already highly-detailed flight sim. Now, the creators of FlyInside FSX have released their own dedicated flight simulator in beta, dubbed FlyInside Flight Simulator, that’s built from the ground-up for VR.

A crazy night at the discotheque with the virtual reality app Beat Reality

The Ghost Howls

Who said that the life of developers is boring? I’ve spent the last Saturday night in a real discotheque in Milan to make people try our virtual reality experience Beat Reality and I really had tons of fun. Beat Reality is the experience that I have developed together with Enea Le Fons , the man of the #30DaysInVR initiative. He is super-fond of music and so proposed to do together this mixed reality application for the Vive Focus , that lets you see your real world beating following the r

Virtual Reality in Japan – Part 5 – Sega and Adores

VRPlayin

This is the last part of the “VR in Japan” Series, for 2018 at least. If you haven’t followed so far, then I recently went to Japan on a work-vacation, work-cation, trip and have done my very best to sample all the country has to offer in terms of virtual reality. Needless to say, I was almost disappointed, but there is hope. In previous parts I’ve given an overview of the industry, talked about VRZONE (probably the largest VR venue in the world, size and headset count wise), I’ve talked abo
