AR Technology Invades Electric Daisy Carnival In Vegas

Use Snapchat to locate your favorite artists and find your friends in the crowd.

Earlier this month we reported on a new partnership between social media app Snapchat and American events promoter Live Nation that will bring AR (augmented reality) Lenses to multiple concerts across the United States. This includes the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), a legendary electronic music festival currently taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Those lucky enough to be attending in-person can use their smartphone devices to access four unique AR experiences powered by the Snapchat app. Each of these location-based Lenses works in tandem with the EDC experience. One Lense, for example, is designed to help guide you throughout the festival grounds so you can find your favorite artists quickly. Another brings the iconic EDC “Owl” to life in AR during live performances.

Here’s a full breakdown of each of the fours Lenses currently accessible at EDC (as provided by Snap Inc.):

  • Night Owl Lens – EDC’s iconic Owl will soar overhead. Sky Segmentation accurately places it in the open air around you.
  • Daisy Lens – Grow blooms from the ground around you.
  • AR Compass – See who is playing at every stage (and who is up next) on an AR map of the festival grounds.
  • Friend FindAR Lens – If you and your crew enable location sharing on Snapchat, you’ll be able to pinpoint each others directions and distances.

The Electric Daisy Carnival runs from May 20th to May 22nd in Las Vegas, Nevada. For more information on Snapchat’s AR Lenses visit here.

EDC is just one of several Live Nation concerts to receive the AR treatment. Moving forward you can expect original AR-powered Snapchat Lenses for popular events like Lollapalooza in Chicago, Rolling Loud in Miami, The Governors Ball in New York, and Wireless Festival in London.
