The Meta Retail Store Will Feature A ‘First-Of-Its-Kind’ VR Demo

Gameplay is broadcasted in real-time to a wall-to-wall curved LED screen.

Meta (formerly Facebook) today announced plans to open its first brick-and-mortar retail store on its campus in Burlingame, California. Here visitors will have the chance to go hands-on with a variety of Meta products before purchasing. This includes everything from its lineup of Portal video-calling devices to its Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses.

Meta’s physical retail space will also feature a one-of-a-kind demo area for the company’s Meta Quest 2 VR headset. Visitors can go hands-on with popular VR games like Beat SaberGOLF+Real VR Fishing, or Supernatural. Meanwhile, their VR gameplay is broadcasted in real-time to a massive curved LED screen that looks like it was taken straight out of a sci-fi movie. Players even go home with a 30-second mixed reality clip of their play session.

“The Meta Store is going to help people make that connection to how our products can be the gateway to the metaverse in the future. We’re not selling the metaverse in our store, but hopefully people will come in and walk out knowing a little bit more about how our products will help connect them to it,” said Martin Gilliard, Head of Meta Store in an official release.

“Having the store here in Burlingame gives us more opportunity to experiment and keep the customer experience core to our development. What we learn here will help define our future retail strategy.”

The Meta Store opens to the public on May 9th at 322 Airport Blvd in Burlingame, California. Store hours are Monday through Friday from 11:00AM to 6:00PM PT. Visitors can purchase the Meta Quest 2 as well as select Quest 2 accessories.

The company has also added a new ‘Shop’ tab to Meta.com to simplify the online ordering process. For more information visit check out the official announcement here.
