Suicide Squad VR Experience Coming to Comic-Con

Just two weeks before the theatrical debut of Suicide Squad, Warner Bros will be hosting a number of Suicide Squad events at San Diego Comic-Con, including a live-action virtual reality experience.

Suicide Squad, which heads into theaters on August 5th, will invade this year’s Comic-Con with a presence both on and off the main floor, including appearances by the film’s stars.

The team of DC Super-Villains will be hosting an immersive experience at San Diego’s Hard Rock Hotel from 10 am to 7 pm each day of the Con. For the event, all 6000 square feet of the Hard Rock Hotel will be transformed into Belle Reve penitentiary, which is the very place the “worst of the worst” were incarcerated before forming the Suicide Squad at the beginning of the film.

Although details are slim, Warner Bros. revealed that you will get a chance to fight alongside the Squad in a live-action virtual reality experience. Other activations at the event will also let you get your own skull “ink” at Harley Quinn’s tattoo parlor and let you take photos in a recreation of one of Belle Reve’s jail cells.

Additionally, DC All Access will sponsor an online cosplay contest called “Squad Up.” Starting Thursday June 9th, you can enter with your best Squad-inspired look as Deadshot, the Joker, Harley Quinn, Colonel Rick Flag, Amanda Waller, Captain Boomerang, Diablo, Killer Croc, Enchantress, Slipknot or Katana on their official site, Twitter and Instagram. Eleven winners, selected by visitors to the site, will then receive an all-expenses-paid trip for four days and three nights to San Diego and passes to the Con, where they will take part in a range of Warner Bros.’ “Suicide Squad” activities throughout the weekend.

FX The Strain Comic Con VR

2015 San Diego Comic-Con live-action virtual reality experience inspired by The Strain.

Last year’s Comic-Con saw a number VR activations during the annual gathering with FX’s The Strain building an entire VR warehouse, SyFy giving away Google Cardboard headsets and the Warcraft movie releasing the first public footage of the movie for Google Cardboard at Comic-Con.
